MY WORKS
For this piece, I started with a photo of an empty subway car and replaced the outside of the windows with underwater ocean scenes. I used selection tools and layer masks to fit the water perfectly into the subway windows. Then, I adjusted the color tones and lighting so the underwater scenes matched the greenish lighting inside the train. I also blended the edges and lowered parts of the contrast to make the ocean feel naturally connected to the subway environment. This piece connects to my theme by placing an unnatural natural environment inside an ordinary man-made setting. Seeing sharks and ocean life outside a subway window creates a surreal feeling because it looks realistic while still being impossible. I wanted the image to feel calm but unsettling at the same time, as if the subway had become submerged underwater.
Submerged Transit
For this work, I used a laundromat photo and replaced the washing machine doors with surfing scenes. I carefully cropped and resized the wave images so they fit inside the circular windows of the machines. I adjusted brightness, saturation, and reflections to help the waves blend into the metallic surface of the washers. I also kept the bright blue tones consistent throughout the image so the composition felt unified. This piece connects to my theme by transforming an everyday location into something impossible. Instead of washing clothes, the machines appear to contain entire oceans and surfers riding waves. The contrast between the ordinary laundromat and the powerful ocean scenes creates a surreal effect that makes the viewer look twice and question the reality of the image.
Laundry Waves
For this piece, I combined an image of a grassy cliff with a photograph of an apartment building. I used masking and blending techniques to merge the structure directly into the side of the cliff so it appeared carved into the landscape. I adjusted the shadows, textures, and colors to make the transition between the building and the natural rock feel seamless. I also kept the muted tones consistent throughout the image to create a realistic atmosphere. This piece connects to my theme by combining architecture with nature in an impossible way. The building appears to exist inside the cliff itself, blending human-made structures into a natural environment. Even though the image looks believable at first, the placement of the apartments inside the landscape creates a surreal and unnatural effect. I wanted the piece to feel like a hidden world where nature and human life physically merge together.
Cliffside Living
For this work, I created a bathroom scene where every tile is replaced with different ocean and water textures. I carefully arranged and cropped multiple water images into square shapes so they fit together like real tiles. I adjusted the tones and reflections to keep the blue color palette consistent across the entire wall. I also used blending and lighting adjustments to make the water textures feel naturally part of the bathroom environment. This piece connects to my theme by bringing natural ocean imagery into an ordinary indoor space. The bathroom appears normal at first, but the walls are completely made from water and ocean textures, creating an impossible environment. By transforming a familiar room into something surreal, I wanted the image to blur the line between interior spaces and nature.
