SOPHIE MIES
ART 141 PORTFOLIO
Hello, I'm Sophie Mies. I am a freshmen at Pitzer College studying Economics and Data Science. My work in my Introduction to Digital Art class explores the relationship between reality and imagination through Photoshop.
For ART141, I created a series of four digital compositions centered on the theme of unnatural elements within natural environments. Each piece begins with a realistic setting, which I then disrupt by introducing an out-of-place element. Using Photoshop tools such as layering, masking, and blending, I focused on maintaining consistent lighting, coloring, and texture so that each image feels cohesive.
I was inspired by artists like Philippe Ramette, Laura Zalenga, and Monica Carvalho, and I aimed to create images that exists in a space between realism and surrealism. In my series, some works emphasize subtle integration, while other highlight the contrast. They show how small visual disruption can transform familiar environments into something new.
